Mama Loca is one of the most happening Greek and Middle-east restaurants to open in Indore last year (the other one that comes to mind is Mediterra on 7th floor of Sayaji). Housed on New Palasia, it’s in an unbeatable location for all the passing traffic that runs between Racecourse road and the A.B. Road. Mama Loca is a unique-style restaurant in Indore City, MP. It bills itself as the first truly authentic Greek-Lebanese restaurant in the city although I suppose most restaurants would call themselves authentic. I mean, why wouldn’t you?
To start was a Tzatziki, a greek sauce made of strained yogurt (usually from sheep or goat milk) mixed with cucumbers, garlic, salt, olive oil, red wine vinegar, and sometimes dill served with pita bread. Actually we should have been munching on the Mama Loca special dips platter, with couple of dips with pita bread. But the restaurant got our order wrong and brought us the Tzatziki instead. But as the service was a bit chaotic – we got our food before our drinks – we decided not to bother having the restaurant correct our order.
The Tzatziki was fabulous. The dip toppings had been evenly piled on top of the dip bowl and the bread was so soft and flavorful in taste. Furthermore, here I was expecting ‘an authentic Falafel & Hummus’! and we were served with exact real authentic tastes hummus dip and fried falafel balls.

We decided to go for some of the more interesting options on the menu, including a greece and lebanon veg with herb rice and cheese. The white gravy was very good – tasty, light and savory. This dish was to interesting to try, but they were squishy in texture and a bit bland. This was an average dish.
Potato-Onion Tortilla – flour tortillas stuffed with potato and onion – was so appetizing. I couldn’t stomach this dish and ended up leaving it. The tortillas were good though. Again these were light and soft.
Drinks included a Basil-Cucumber. It tasted like a mojito/lemonade and was slightly odd.
The décor is extraordinary. The seatings are quite comfortable – no doubt designed to ensure customers satisfaction. If you happen to sit right near the kitchen, be prepared to come away smelling like a barbeque as the overhead kitchen ventilation wasn’t great.
I do give the latter credit for freshness, trying to introduce uncommon Middle-east ingredients to a Indore city, wonderfully authentic tacos and flour tortillas, and a very good ‘Hummus’. Mama Loca we can say as a destination restaurant for greek food in Indore, but with on higher price side. So to put it into context, it’s the kind of place where if you happen to be walking past, then it’s not a bad choice if you’re in the mood for fast, authentic greek/lebanese/middle-east and mexican food.
