Isn’t it funny how when you are running late, there is always a problem on the Indore Traffic? Or maybe there are almost always problems when you are running late, but it’s just that such delays are much more noticeable when you’re in a rush. I was in a hurry for a Dinner, and I like to try and be on time, although admittedly only with varying degrees of success. Therefore, I started to fret as our car was held up first at one traffic light, and then again at the next on A.B road. “Dinner is waiting for me. Is my entire journey going to be like this?” I thought, gritting my teeth.
But somehow, I managed to arrive at Vijay Nagar exactly 3 minutes before my Dinner reservation at 8:00PM at Mediterra. Wow, how about that for miraculous timing! I rounded the corner out of the Sayaji lobby and saw my dinner companion (1) head into the lobby, and (2) then come straight back out. It seems that from a distance he had spotted me and decided to wait for me outside instead.
“Mediterra” the roof top restaurant (which I really liked). The restaurant is stunning with high transparent window’s and is spaciously laid out to accommodate many diners at a single time. It exudes an exalted blend of the contemporary with the Mediterranean touch.
The menu sings of “Greekness and Mediterraness”. The sourcing of the key ingredients is clearly stated next to each dish, and all are Greek. also the items on the menu are classified and designed so well. Funniest thing is in salad section by mistake their Nonveg salad’s mixed up with veg salad’s, but not a big deal We started with a Fattoush salad (from lebanon) served with pita bread and olive oil. The salad itself was a little salty and the combination of the hummus with the pita bread proved a little too salty a combination.
A crespelle primavera with a pink sauce and risotto was disappointing. The pancake was bland, On its own, the pancake wasn’t good, but the vegetables that made up the rest of the primavera were, and perhaps overly so.
Another dish “Mediterra special cottage cheese steak” was far much better. Grilled cottage cheese with BBQ sauce and new season garlic was lovely and tender, and nicely balanced by the accompanying sides.
Couscous pulav was awesome. The couscous was fresh, However, the yoghurt dressing, was little sour. But overall, the dish was very pleasant.
A dessert of chocolate cannoli with vanilla ice cream was very tasty, but the chocolate mixture would have worked better for me.
As for the service, there were no mistakes they were exceptional. Overall, it was very welcoming, and I found that when I requested an extra scoop of ice cream as I tend to do with most desserts, this was brought speedily and that I was not charged for it. There was no doubting the friendliness and charm of the wait staff whom I found to be very pleasant.
The food wavered from average (starters) to good ( dessert) to very good (cheese steak), and so I would rate it overall as a ‘very good’. INR 3500 was a bit pricey to pay for what we had for a dinner menu. The setting is beautiful, the service is friendly, and so its not a bad spot for Indore. I would hope the cooking is a little tighter and more consistent, otherwise I might not think that it was worth the extra money.
