Gordhan Thal: Authentic Indian Food

In One word “Pure Gujarati/Rajasthani Food”.

Pretty much says it all, right? Sometimes a pure vegetarian thali restaurant would be the best way to explode out with continuous supply of savory items on your plate haha! all you need to do is to go and visit the “Gordhan Thal”, at Geeta Bhavan crossing, A B Road, Indore.

This place is simply amazing. One must go here and have their unlimited thali. Food is authentic gujarati & rajasthani culture with lots of varieties and fresh rotis served on your table. They even serve buttermilk and also special rotis in every other 5 minutes.

The ambience and decor of “Gordhan Thal” is done in the traditional rajwadi style with detailing in mirror and mural work and other traditional rajasthani interior. The place is neat and clean and the food is served in huge steel thalis.

This isn’t about generic “Indian” food: these are regional delicacies and specialty dishes: lentils, curries, daal-bati, farsan all sorts of rice and breads and chutneys and spinach and tomatoes and garlic and onions and the sweet smells and intoxicating aromas of spice after spice after spice … A sensual feast for a fraction of the cost of the what you would pay in other local restaurants.

About service They will serve you super fast. As soon as you take on the table, the waiters overload your thali with lot of savory stuff. Sometimes you need to tell them to slow down to enjoy meal slowly HaHa!

I loved their ambience and general taste of food but found it to be a bit too sweet for my taste so much so that I couldn’t find any difference in between dal and basundi. Because the gujrati food is hyped as being sweet they add a little bit too much of it I think. Have eaten at friend’s house and they don’t have it so sweet. Though I loved the farsan they served.

Really, that’s not a bad way to get lunch/dinner, at all. In fact, it’s one of the more memorable meals out I’ve had in months. You feel right at home even if you’ve never been to any chain “thali restaurants” or tried this style of food before. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting to taste the local Gujrati/Rajasthani food and at Rs.300 per person this is a good deal as the food is unlimited.

Try it sometime.
